Out with the old, in with the new

Welcome back! We’re stoked to see you here and excited to share all the latest developments on the Greater move.

Previously, we shared how some of our team members have been experiencing moving offices. It’s a big adjustment, and we were super curious to discover what they thought about it. If you’re reading this and thinking wait, what, here’s the latest blog where you can read all about what our team members had to say.

To say the least, the past few weeks have been a rollercoaster. A ride full of thrills and, when you exit, you feel shaken up. In a good way, of course. Sounds like a perfect moment to look back on what has happened, don’t you think?

What's cooking

Remember the masterpiece, pièce de résistance, the central part of the office, a.k.a. the kitchen? We’re pleased to say it’s almost done. When you exit the elevator and arrive on the 4th floor, the open and spacious kitchen gives an instant homey vibe.

We chose an open-concept all-black kitchen with cabinets and two refrigerators along one wall. The cabinet doors reach from top to bottom and create a minimalistic look. The large kitchen counter with a dishwasher, stove, and bar allows people to enjoy a cooked meal, have a chat, and take a deserved break from work.

And let’s not forget our fabulous wine cooler. We’ve already put the champagne cold to celebrate the Greater move in a few weeks. Don’t worry, there’s plenty for everyone!

Besides the kitchen counter and cabinets, the ceiling looks fantastic. Before the renovations, it had an industrial look with black pipes across. Although it’s suitable for the office areas, we were going for a warmer atmosphere in the kitchen. Gregor, our carpenter, installed a wooden ceiling above the kitchen area to create a cozy space.

Superior interior

Since the first time we’ve set foot in the office, one of the significant differences is the overall look and feel. Before, it was just an empty space with daunting white walls. A little too cold for comfort and, unsurprisingly, not the style Greater was going for. Now, we walk into an office that is a lot more welcoming.

How come?

All the walls and radiators are painted black. That’s it. Who knew such a slight change in color makes all the difference? We love the change and are thankful for the painter’s effort. The entire office looks fresh, sophisticated, and ready for a new start.

As you can see in the pictures, all the glass division walls are installed and shining like never before. We’ve put soft carpet in place for the recreational area and open office space. The incredible fish pattern floor creates an easy walking route from both ends of the building.

Moreover, the lighting plan is starting to take shape. We’ve mentioned this was one of the most complex parts to execute. It’s no secret better quality of lighting increases the well-being of employees. Besides, the large space comes with loads of possibilities, so we had to choose wisely depending on the layout. We went for different shapes of qualitative overhead lights specially designed for office spaces, and we can’t keep our eyes off them!

Eyes on the prize

As we enter the last phase of moving, we can almost taste the champagne. To celebrate, we’re inviting every organization in the building to the grand opening and cheer with us. However, there are several essential tasks to be done before we pop the cork.

Like always, there are surprises when it comes to planning. We decided to create more walls with acoustic panels for better absorbing sounds. Apparently, this takes an extra 209 hours. Will we do this ourselves? Yes, piece of cake, right?

Next, we’ve requested our own flags for outside and ordered personalized window stickers with our logo. That way, you’ll be able to spot Greater from afar. Also, we’ve been discussing effective sun blockers for the entire office. With sunlight coming through the windows all around, it’s nice to block the heat on warm summer days.

Last but not least, two new custom-made cabinets for the pool table will arrive. They’ll divide the space and create an excellent barrier between the desks and the recreational area.

Are we there yet?

Almost. We’ve officially left our old space in Voorschoten and handed over the keys. So much for the end of an era. While we’re busy moving and unpacking all the boxes, installing desks and computers, and making sure there’s a super-fast internet connection for everyone, the Greater team works from home. It’s safe to say we’ve all had a good practice run with working from home the last couple of months…

In the meantime, we’re focusing on creating a great office for, well, Greater people.

Curious about the final work of moving offices? And how Greater team members enjoyed their first days working in the new office? Stay tuned, and we’ll fill you in on all the adventures in 4 weeks!
